A nationwide estimate of the economic costs of opioid-related deaths and overdoses using conventional economic estimates for valuing life routinely which are used by U.S. Federal agencies. It considers the underreporting of opioids in overdose deaths, heroin-related fatalities and incorporates nonfatal costs of opioid misuse.
